Quarantine

[From the Italian quaranta giorni (forty days). The space of time in the 14th Century ships coming to Venice from plague-infected parts were required to sit before the passengers were allowed to come ashore, giving enough time to see if symptoms would develop.]

Forty days and forty nights

A rite of passage for symptoms

To develop from a plague

The amount of time in isolation from the rest

Quarantine

We got familiar all last year

Wish you still lived up to your name

And we’d be clear of this pandemic

In forty days and forty nights

Quarantine

I’d hate to see your name again

I love you kept us safe throughout last year

Locked down and socially distant wasn’t fun

But glad I get to hug friends again

In less than forty days
